In this article we propose to analyze the foreign policy of Gran Colombia from a realist perspective. Insofar as we seek to relate Grand Colombian policy to the causes of its disintegration, we will focus on the typical instruments used, Diplomacy and War. The description of the power potential of the new Republic and the impact of the actions and decisions adopted within and outside this regional space will serve to validate the hypothesis that Gran Colombia’s foreign policy played a role in catalyzing its own disintegration.
