Resumo

Public Environmental Education policies constitute an important instrument to face current environmental challenges. Responding to a challenge from the Ministers of the Environment of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP), towards the development of National Environmental Education Strategies in the various Member States, the Environmental Education Network of the Lusophone Countries and Galicia set up a working group to prepare a document with the Guidelines to support the Preparation, Implementation, Evaluation and Review of National Environmental Education Strategies. The preparation of the document was preceded by a survey of Environmental Education strategies and policies already developed and implemented in each of the countries, as well as other relevant policies and related programs. The process of creating the document took place over fourteen months and culminated in its presentation at a meeting of CPLP Ministers of the Environment, having contributed to encouraging the development of public policies that reinforce the elaboration, implementation and/or extension of National Environmental Education Strategies.
